Ok. thanks for letting me know. The game is more Action RPG than Metriodvania, but the it does have some stuff a 3D Metriodvania would have. Can you also give me some tips on how to find better weapons and gear, also how to find keys?
I ran anyway, and it did not do a virus. But when playing there were some issues. I noticed that the mouse camera is faster than the gamepad camera, and the game FPS was I think at 30, and the dagger felt like it barely did any damage. I was timing my attacks and it was taking a long to kill enemies quickly. And there was no autosave. This made me fell like I was getting nowhere in the game. I don't know how to find better weapons and gear. The only gear I found was a iron mask. Overall great game, but I could use some tips and the game could need more work. I am not finished yet but I will continue.
More than 2,000 people have downloaded this (latest) build, which serves as confirmation that there are no viruses. You can check the ratings and comments here, on YouTube, and in Discord. Not to mention, it would be extremely strange, pointless (and honestly, impossible) for me to add anything like that, haha. I want to become an indie developer and create games.
But in the end, the decision is yours — this is the internet, after all.
For some reason I got a waring that playing the game may risk my PC when i tried launching it. Is there a way I can play the game without risking a virus on my PC? I really want to play this game.
Brother in Christ, you absolutely will get a warning about launching an unknown software, because your system does not recognize it. It's just a risk warning though, so it doesn't immediately means that it contains a virus or malware. I suggest you scan the file first then after that it's up to you to run it or not.
I absolutely LOVED this, swinging my sword and then moving the camera, only for the sword to hit enemies in the path of the adjusted camera is incredible. Simply the best feeling sword combat in a first person person dungeon crawl I've experienced. Massive KF2 fan but I can't wait to see what original stuff you can cook up!
Any chance of an FPS cap toggle or was it built specifically for 60FPS? I did notice a sudden speedup when trying lossless scaling FG as it loaded into the game, but quickly went back to normal.
Playing 60FPS capped games when you've been used to HFR (120+) for many years is really a subpar experience; especially if they're FPV controlled.
Otherwise, this is a very impressive job. Always love to see old games remade in modern engines (DF Unity!). Lunacid was the first modern experience I had with oldschool FromSoft design. If the entire genre of their games was remade like this, then, well, the world would be a better place.
Yeah, the game is intentionally locked at 60 FPS. I’m not very experienced, and at the time I couldn’t figure out the bugs that came with unlocked FPS. The physics and camera would break — they behaved differently and ruined the experience." Thank you! I agree, these games feel like their own subgenre. There used to be very few of them, but in recent years, there’s been a wave of new projects and announcements. That’s really great to see!
Hi! Fromsoftware's games are my favorites since Demon's Souls and recently I dived into some King's Field likes like Dread Delusion and Lunacid. I was always interested in playing the original King's Field series but that's really a hassle, almost unplayable even with emulators, so this project of yours is truly great! Do you think you'll remake the whole game at some point?
Yeah, awesome games! There's definitely a chance that I'll take it on. For now, my plans only include my own King's Field-like game after current project. But if I don't have to worry about a developer career and income, I will absolutely make this dream come true. Ideally, I dream of making "remakes" of the entire trilogy (or at least seeing them—after all, someone else might do it instead of me!).
I will start working on the project in at least six months. You can follow the progress on Discord (or Twitter, but its post format is different and less convenient). The game will likely be released on both platforms, but I will probably release the demo on Itch.io first since it's simpler and faster.
Well, these are just plans for now. I hope I can make them happen!
This is truly an amazing project, I've beaten it before around when it was first released. Coming back now though, I realize that there is a strange stutter effect when I hit enemies. It's like the sword is hitting the enemy for each frame the sword is in contact with it but with no effect. It makes the combat take double the amount of time it would normally take to kill one enemy.
I think this needs some refinement. The attack animation slowdown on hit was done intentionally—it’s part of the "impact." If this effect is strengthened, the hit will feel even more "physical," considering that we’re just clicking a button. In general, this is used in many games.
With the next project, I’ll need to explore this in more depth to make everything feel enjoyable and fair.
And yes, damage is dealt once per enemy. Thank you!
Wow! I was pretty skeptical how you'd possibly convert the original control scheme to something like mouselook, without messing up the balance- but you've actually managed to do it. By increasing enemies turning speed and changing squids' attack range the gameplay remained fun while giving the player some challenge. The only thing I'm mixed on is the visuals but that's entirely subjective- modern rendering pipeline clashes with the original textures. Overall- great job. A shame that this project won't see completion but I wish you all the best with your next endeavor.
This really just made my day! I remember playing this back in the day on my PS1 and a dirty 2nd hand disc lol. Thank you for such great work and an awesome job. Gracing us with a remake of KF 3 would be epic!
OMG! I watched Majuular's King's Field retrospective video about the series, which I had never heard of, but it looked amazing, especially King's Field II. So I went looking for a version I could play on my PC because I don't own any consoles, but I found nothing. Then I found a 4-year-old post on reddit linking to this page. I downloaded it, and I'm so happy! You even put in an Invert Y-axis option for the mouse!! I need that option to play, but most small devs never include that option, but you did, and I am so thankful to you. The game runs great and looks fantastic, and I am SO HAPPY! THANK YOU!
Glad you liked it! Thank you so much, your feedback is really motivating! The demo is small, but I hope it satisfies you. And then you can move on to the old games and finish them) While you're playing through those, maybe a new King's Field-like game from me will already be out!
An amazing remake, it captures the awe and fun of the original while making the game easier to play for a modern audience (especially the modernized controls and fps). I loved exploring and fighting new enemies, I'm sad it had to end where it did. Whatever stuff you do next I'm excited to see and thanks a bunch for making this remake.
I've now played this remake all the way through five times within only a week ;-v-. Thank you so much for making a modernized version of the beginning of the game, I'm still trying to get used to a first-person game with the wacky 1995 controls King's Field has so I haven't gotten terribly far in the original game itself (same story with Ultima Underworld actually, old first person games no matter the platform seem to have control wackiness).
Some small notes:
There is no ability to unequip items or spells (unlike the original)
Saves are seemingly ordered randomly rather than based on when the save was made or last saved upon
The quick button item will change to the flask even if you have set it to something else like the pirate's map (which I noticed while looking around to make sure I'd found everything)
This may be a me-thing but the poison feels inconsequential, it doesn't last long enough to damage you enough to create the desire to use an antidote and doesn't do enough damage within that time to make you need to use a herb or flask (this may be moreso the fact that the newer controls make the game easier in general)
I once got stuck in a wall in the cave that has two skeles (I don't remember which exactly but it has a little alcove) it was a rough wall so I assume it was that I got stuck below on of the triangles (I'm not sure the collision implementation here) it's not a big deal and I don't know how to recreate it, it was more amusing than anything
Even with those small issues, I love the controls and feel of this remake. I will certainly be replaying this remake numerous times more before I can get used to the controls and feel of the original game. I'll put up with my computer revving up hard with the CPU usage of the Unreal engine ;v-v.
You’ve warmed my heart. Thank you so much for the feedback!
With this demo, I’ve made a big step in learning game development. I’m increasingly realizing that I still need to gain more experience. Right now, I’m working on a new project with a team. We’ve made some progress already, and the 'foundation' of the game is stronger than what I had in my demo.
So the plan is simple: we successfully (or not) finish the new project, and after that, I’ll most likely start working on a King's Field-like game. With the experience gained, development will be more polished and faster!
Amazing demo for a remake of a classic! Sincerely hope you can do the resto of the levels. Would love a full remake with the great graphics and better controls!
Immediately went to grab the knight sword only to be disappointed. 0/10. Just kidding. This looks and plays great. Really manages to update the look and gameplay without compromising the nuance of the original. Well done!
Loved the demo. Never player the old kings filed games except IV and this one is faster, but really enjoyable. Are you using Unreal Engine? If so, everything is blueprint code, some C++ or all is C++?
Everything is done in Blueprints, plus an interface plugin and 3D pathfinding on C++. Overall, it’s pretty cool that I managed to create a project without any programming experience. Glad you liked it! Thanks for playing!
Hello! I'm trying to extract the game but I keep getting an Error 0x8096002A: No description available for a bunch of the files in the game. Was just wondering if I was doing something wrong?
Hey first time playing any King's Field game. After attacking if I wait for my attack bar to fully fill will my attack do more dmg than if I attack as soon as I can? Thx and thx for the remake, wanted to play the game for a long time.
Sorry I'm a bit confused, is this going to be a full remake in the future or are you only remaking a portion of the game? I'd absolutely love to play a full game of this. Would even donate if need be to get it done.
Also this demo is REALLY great. I love the little touches like enemies having new animations and moving legs. So cool. if there were a few tiny things I could change, it'd be nice to have the weapon and magic bars be optionally at the bottom middle of the screen or so, it's easier on the eyes than having to look up to the left every time to see if your weapon is charged. Also I think it's a bit dark in areas where it doesn't need to be, just needs a bit of work on having better lighting in areas.
Thank you very much! We are currently in the middle of a "marketing campaign," the outcome of which will determine whether to finish this project or move on to another. I talk about it in more detail in this video:
So yes, you can support it in two ways)
In any case, I will continue making similar projects. I'm glad you enjoyed the demo. Thank you for your feedback and for playing!
Watched someone play this remake recently and holy heckie it looks so good! And yeah like bravecat mentioned, it's SpaceYeen at Twitch who I found out that this project existed at all from. Honestly would love to see this thing finished, you're doing an awesome job so far!
just so you know, https://www.twitch.tv/spaceyeen is streaming the demo right now for a few hundred viewers! we're huge fans of king's field on his channel, so we're ecstatic about the work you've done so far. thanks for taking on this project!
You can support by telling suitable YouTubers/streamers about the demo. Or donate on Patreon. All links are on the YouTube channel and in the video description (also in Discord) Thank you very much for the walkthrough and support!
I never had the chance to play KIng's Field before, so this would be an amazing chance to play this classic! Much love and appreciation for the developers! <3
One issue seems to be the fish aggression on the shore. Unless of course if the more aggressive fish was made by design. The fish literally jump out of the water on the shoreline and squirm around when attempting to reach the player. This may be a result of the overall more aggressive monsters nature this remake has over the original design.

This is freaking awesome. Are you going to finish the game?
Thank you!
For now, the project is on hold until better times. But yes, ideally, I’d like to make the entire trilogy in this style.
Right now, I’m working on a small commercial project to establish myself as a full-fledged indie developer.
game crash on start :(, completely froze. alt F4 didnt work. So i had to end the task through task manager
There were reports of a crash on launch. It usually only happens the first time — the second launch works fine.
No idea why it happens at all, though...
Ok. thanks for letting me know. The game is more Action RPG than Metriodvania, but the it does have some stuff a 3D Metriodvania would have. Can you also give me some tips on how to find better weapons and gear, also how to find keys?
Yeah, well...explore the area and mash the interact button on everything you see. I guess that's it)
I ran anyway, and it did not do a virus. But when playing there were some issues. I noticed that the mouse camera is faster than the gamepad camera, and the game FPS was I think at 30, and the dagger felt like it barely did any damage. Cool, thanks! Yeah, there are some flaws. Overall, I tried to recreate the original as closely as possible.
The game is locked at 60 FPS. One of the features of King's Field is the stamina bar — the fuller it is, the more damage you deal.
The game itself is a 3D metroidvania (though really, only the level design part is from metroidvanias).
So if I download and try to play the game, it will put a virus on my PC?
More than 2,000 people have downloaded this (latest) build, which serves as confirmation that there are no viruses. You can check the ratings and comments here, on YouTube, and in Discord.
Not to mention, it would be extremely strange, pointless (and honestly, impossible) for me to add anything like that, haha.

LInux when?
A Linux version is unlikely.
At the moment, I've postponed the idea of making a full game until better times.
Thanks, it really sucks that playing this game isn't safe for my PC, but thanks for telling.
Also does the game support gamepad?
The archive contains a standard build of the game made with Unreal Engine 5.
As of today, the archive has been downloaded by over 2,000 people.
If your antivirus shows a warning or anything like that, unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it.
You can also check out some playthroughs:
LobosJr
Cryveil
That's another way to enjoy it! :)
As for gamepads: PS4 and PS5 controllers are not supported. Other controllers should work fine.
Thank you for your interest!

Have you played any of Dreamnoid's games, like The Lightkeeper, The Trespasser, or Legends of Aereven: Lunar Wake.

This makes me want an Eternal Ring remake.
And thankfully fromsoft seems to be cool with people doing stuff like this... unless its bloodborne but that's a sony issue lol.
Thx for Remade Classic Game! I hope there will be parts 1, 3, 4!

I definitely hope you will remake Kings Field 2 NA with Lyle Forester. I consider it one of the best of the series imo.

Yeah. The fast turn mechanic also needed enemy balancing. In the first week after release, players helped identify bugs and adjust the balance.
Most people liked the graphics. But I think I never really got the ocean right. Other than that, yeah. It’s all a matter of taste.
Glad you liked it overall! I’m planning to make my own King’s Field-like game after my current project )
Oh cool, that's great to hear. The world needs more King's Field-likes. Followed, and looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future!
Good work! There is a little bug, I can run infinitely
Ah, it's a feature, haha! Thank you)

Unbelievable! This is a 10 out of 10 work. I can’t believe I just heard about it only to find it’s on hold (💔). Great work!
Thank you! I hope to one day delight you with a similar project or a full version of this one—anything is possible. ❤
Awesome!! I still play the original version of this from time to time, and it DESPERATELY needs a better control scheme.

Maybe you should try a different archiver, like WinRAR or something else. Or perhaps it didn't download correctly...
Doing it with WinRAR worked, thank you!
Hey first time playing any King's Field game. After attacking if I wait for my attack bar to fully fill will my attack do more dmg than if I attack as soon as I can? Thx and thx for the remake, wanted to play the game for a long time.
Yes, the orange bar represents the weapon's attack strength. With an empty bar, the weapon hardly deals any damage. Thanks for playing!
this is cool as H, love seeing the love king's field has been getting lately. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your future projects!

The game of my childhood... What a pleasure to play keyboard mouse... You have done a remarkable job. bravo
Thank you!
Very excited to see more of this. My main problem with the original title was the camera controls. this remake completely fixes that issue.
Good Game i need more :D
i seen lobosjr was streaming this demo he really loved it is impressed with your work
I also watched his entire stream. Great playthrough!
Saw SpaceYeen play this on Twitch. He loves the King's Field games. You're doing a great job with this and would love to see more!

Yes) Everything is complicated with fish. I have remade it many times and will redo it again if it is decided to continue development.
