Ok. thanks for letting me know. The game is more Action RPG than Metriodvania, but the it does have some stuff a 3D Metriodvania would have. Can you also give me some tips on how to find better weapons and gear, also how to find keys?
I ran anyway, and it did not do a virus. But when playing there were some issues. I noticed that the mouse camera is faster than the gamepad camera, and the game FPS was I think at 30, and the dagger felt like it barely did any damage. I was timing my attacks and it was taking a long to kill enemies quickly. And there was no autosave. This made me fell like I was getting nowhere in the game. I don't know how to find better weapons and gear. The only gear I found was a iron mask. Overall great game, but I could use some tips and the game could need more work. I am not finished yet but I will continue.
More than 2,000 people have downloaded this (latest) build, which serves as confirmation that there are no viruses. You can check the ratings and comments here, on YouTube, and in Discord. Not to mention, it would be extremely strange, pointless (and honestly, impossible) for me to add anything like that, haha. I want to become an indie developer and create games.
But in the end, the decision is yours — this is the internet, after all.
For some reason I got a waring that playing the game may risk my PC when i tried launching it. Is there a way I can play the game without risking a virus on my PC? I really want to play this game.
Brother in Christ, you absolutely will get a warning about launching an unknown software, because your system does not recognize it. It's just a risk warning though, so it doesn't immediately means that it contains a virus or malware. I suggest you scan the file first then after that it's up to you to run it or not.
I absolutely LOVED this, swinging my sword and then moving the camera, only for the sword to hit enemies in the path of the adjusted camera is incredible. Simply the best feeling sword combat in a first person person dungeon crawl I've experienced. Massive KF2 fan but I can't wait to see what original stuff you can cook up!
Any chance of an FPS cap toggle or was it built specifically for 60FPS? I did notice a sudden speedup when trying lossless scaling FG as it loaded into the game, but quickly went back to normal.
Playing 60FPS capped games when you've been used to HFR (120+) for many years is really a subpar experience; especially if they're FPV controlled.
Otherwise, this is a very impressive job. Always love to see old games remade in modern engines (DF Unity!). Lunacid was the first modern experience I had with oldschool FromSoft design. If the entire genre of their games was remade like this, then, well, the world would be a better place.
Yeah, the game is intentionally locked at 60 FPS. I’m not very experienced, and at the time I couldn’t figure out the bugs that came with unlocked FPS. The physics and camera would break — they behaved differently and ruined the experience." Thank you! I agree, these games feel like their own subgenre. There used to be very few of them, but in recent years, there’s been a wave of new projects and announcements. That’s really great to see!
Hi! Fromsoftware's games are my favorites since Demon's Souls and recently I dived into some King's Field likes like Dread Delusion and Lunacid. I was always interested in playing the original King's Field series but that's really a hassle, almost unplayable even with emulators, so this project of yours is truly great! Do you think you'll remake the whole game at some point?
Yeah, awesome games! There's definitely a chance that I'll take it on. For now, my plans only include my own King's Field-like game after current project. But if I don't have to worry about a developer career and income, I will absolutely make this dream come true. Ideally, I dream of making "remakes" of the entire trilogy (or at least seeing them—after all, someone else might do it instead of me!).
I will start working on the project in at least six months. You can follow the progress on Discord (or Twitter, but its post format is different and less convenient). The game will likely be released on both platforms, but I will probably release the demo on Itch.io first since it's simpler and faster.
Well, these are just plans for now. I hope I can make them happen!
This is truly an amazing project, I've beaten it before around when it was first released. Coming back now though, I realize that there is a strange stutter effect when I hit enemies. It's like the sword is hitting the enemy for each frame the sword is in contact with it but with no effect. It makes the combat take double the amount of time it would normally take to kill one enemy.
I think this needs some refinement. The attack animation slowdown on hit was done intentionally—it’s part of the "impact." If this effect is strengthened, the hit will feel even more "physical," considering that we’re just clicking a button. In general, this is used in many games.
With the next project, I’ll need to explore this in more depth to make everything feel enjoyable and fair.
And yes, damage is dealt once per enemy. Thank you!
Wow! I was pretty skeptical how you'd possibly convert the original control scheme to something like mouselook, without messing up the balance- but you've actually managed to do it. By increasing enemies turning speed and changing squids' attack range the gameplay remained fun while giving the player some challenge. The only thing I'm mixed on is the visuals but that's entirely subjective- modern rendering pipeline clashes with the original textures. Overall- great job. A shame that this project won't see completion but I wish you all the best with your next endeavor.
This really just made my day! I remember playing this back in the day on my PS1 and a dirty 2nd hand disc lol. Thank you for such great work and an awesome job. Gracing us with a remake of KF 3 would be epic!

Im following this!
This is freaking awesome. Are you going to finish the game?
Thank you!
For now, the project is on hold until better times. But yes, ideally, I’d like to make the entire trilogy in this style.
Right now, I’m working on a small commercial project to establish myself as a full-fledged indie developer.
ohhh so there is hope ahah
game crash on start :(, completely froze. alt F4 didnt work. So i had to end the task through task manager
There were reports of a crash on launch. It usually only happens the first time — the second launch works fine.
No idea why it happens at all, though...

Yeah, well...explore the area and mash the interact button on everything you see. I guess that's it)

Cool, thanks! Yeah, there are some flaws. Overall, I tried to recreate the original as closely as possible.
The game is locked at 60 FPS. One of the features of King's Field is the stamina bar — the fuller it is, the more damage you deal.
The game itself is a 3D metroidvania (though really, only the level design part is from metroidvanias).
So if I download and try to play the game, it will put a virus on my PC?

LInux when?
A Linux version is unlikely.
At the moment, I've postponed the idea of making a full game until better times.
Thanks, it really sucks that playing this game isn't safe for my PC, but thanks for telling.
Also does the game support gamepad?
The archive contains a standard build of the game made with Unreal Engine 5.
As of today, the archive has been downloaded by over 2,000 people.
If your antivirus shows a warning or anything like that, unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it.
You can also check out some playthroughs:
LobosJr
Cryveil
That's another way to enjoy it! :)
As for gamepads: PS4 and PS5 controllers are not supported. Other controllers should work fine.
Thank you for your interest!

Have you played any of Dreamnoid's games, like The Lightkeeper, The Trespasser, or Legends of Aereven: Lunar Wake.

This makes me want an Eternal Ring remake.
And thankfully fromsoft seems to be cool with people doing stuff like this... unless its bloodborne but that's a sony issue lol.
Thx for Remade Classic Game! I hope there will be parts 1, 3, 4!

Oh wow! And is your King's Field like game gonna be on Steam or are you going to publish it here? Where can I follow updates on this new project?

I definitely hope you will remake Kings Field 2 NA with Lyle Forester. I consider it one of the best of the series imo.

Yeah. The fast turn mechanic also needed enemy balancing. In the first week after release, players helped identify bugs and adjust the balance.
Most people liked the graphics. But I think I never really got the ocean right. Other than that, yeah. It’s all a matter of taste.
Glad you liked it overall! I’m planning to make my own King’s Field-like game after my current project )
Oh cool, that's great to hear. The world needs more King's Field-likes. Followed, and looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future!
Good work! There is a little bug, I can run infinitely
Ah, it's a feature, haha! Thank you)

Thank you for playing! Yeah, I hope I'll be able to make my own King's Field. Well, I'll definitely try!
